Case Study

Problem:

Apple Inc. needed to design and develop a webpage to showcase their new product, the iPad Pro. The objective was to highlight the product features and provide users with a seamless browsing experience. The challenge was to create a page that not only captured the essence of the iPad Pro but one that also kept the Apple brand guidelines in mind. The company also had a tight budget, a limited timeframe and a remote team.

Approach:

The web design team started by conducting thorough research on iPad Pro, identifying the key features, and the user requirements. The team also evaluated the existing Apple brand guidelines for this particular product. We researched and analyzed customers’ needs in order to create a design that would appeal to them and make it easy for them to navigate the site.

The team then started designing the webpage in a way that put emphasis on the iPad Pro's features and benefits. We chose a minimalist design approach that highlights the main features of the device. This approach was in line with the Apple brand guidelines and gave prominence to the product without overwhelming the user.

The team also made use of high-quality imagery to showcase the iPad Pro’s design, features and capabilities. The targeted audience was also taken into consideration when deciding on the type of content and images to use.

With the tight budget, the team came up with an efficient design strategy to meet the deadline. They used an agile approach, dividing the project into sprints to allow for easier task management, frequent communication and feedback among the remote team members.

My Role:

Contribute relevant UI and overall design concepts to the design and design leadership team. Provide variations of solutions via wireframe, lo-fi + hi-fi sketches, polished in situ designs, prototypes and presentations to stakeholders. Contribute to the design of the entire page, then zoning in on specific sections, splitting responsibilities with other team members. Visually develop the marketing page.

My Challenge:

Explore the best ways to connect the marketing page to the interactive page. Ensure the sections of the design of the marketing page was best in class, pixel perfect and matched via visual development while communicating needs to development team members.

Constraints:

Considering the remote team members, the web design team had to work on consistent communication throughout the project to ensure that everyone was on the same page in terms of expectations and goals.

The other constraint was the limited timeframe. The team had to work on an efficient schedule and implement an agile development approach that allowed them to meet the project deadline. The team also had to create a low-cost design strategy that allowed them to work within the assigned budget.

Finally, they had to keep the Apple brand guidelines in mind. The team had to design a webpage that aligned with Apple’s branding and minimalist design language. This meant that the design had to be clean, simple and elegant, yet functional.

Conclusion:

With the limited budget, tight timeframe, remote team members, and keeping the Apple brand guidelines in mind, the team successfully designed and developed a webpage that showcased the iPad Pro’s features, benefits, and design in an effective and elegant way. The outcome was a page that was informative, captivating, and user-friendly. The team was able to meet the project deadline, well within budget, and in keeping with Apple's brand guidelines.
